Offered is an original American Airlines Pilot/Mechanic Hat Badge (eagle facing left). This badge was used from 1931-1934 and during that time period it was not unusual for a mechanic, that was qualified, to then get hired as a pilot. There are many photos of pilots wearing this badge that had a mechanic background. It should be noted that a non-mechanic wore a badge with just ‘AA’ on it. This badge is gilt brass and it measures 1-3/8″ in diameter. This example has no maker marks, etc. on the back of it. It is complete with a threaded post and the screw on disc fastener as well as both stabilization posts (some had just a vertical pin with a come-under swivel catch on the back of them). As stated above, overall this badge is in very nice condition showing only minor evidence of use/wear.
