Vintage Riefler G1/8 Drafting Set w/Locking Case This is a basic Vintage Riefler G1/8 drafting/compass set. It contains the compass and dividers and a few other items but appears to be missing at least one item. From online research it appears that Riefler was founded by Clemens Riefler (1820-76) in 1841. His son, Sigmund patented the so-called “Round System” of compasses, a signature product of Riefler. The company still exists in Germany, and sells drafting furniture and CAD equipment. This set is in good condition, but has some flaws as detailed below. The case appears to have been designed for multiple sets of instruments as there are matching form-fitted ‘plugs’ where additional tools could be in a more extensive. This item is from the estate of a gentleman who graduated from a major mid-west university in the early 1970s with a degree in Architecture. He spent the next 50 years working as an Architectural Draftsman, Architect, Engineer and Property Manager all over the mid-west and east coast. This set is probably from the 1950s or 1960s. Condition: The individual tools are in good used condition with no rust, corrosion or pitting. The compass is complete and fully operational. The dividers are missing one of the points and the associated set-screw. The case is solid with no significant rips, tears, separation or damage and the locking mechanism works smoothly. There are a few marks in the case finish as can be seen in the pictures and the dark green cover is slightly torn and separated from one bottom corner. Everything could probably benefit with a good cleaning but I’ll leave that to the buyer to preserve any vintage patina or finishes. The actual item(s) you are bidding on is pictured.
