Vintage French Christofle Gallia Silver Plate Candle Holder with Handle, Shell Pattern This handsome vintage French Christofle silver plated candle holder with handle is designed in the stylish “Coquille” or shell, pattern. It bears the maker’s marks of the famous Maison Christofle in Paris. The first maker’s mark consists of the name “Christofle” along with the word “France” written in block letters. The second maker’s mark consists of the initials O.C. (Orfèvrerie Christofle) surrounding the figure of a knight from a chess set. The third mark consists of the words “Coll. Gallia” (Collection Gallia). The name Gallia was registered by Christofle to launch their “Art Nouveau” silver plate flatware collection. The prestigious grand hotel Le Ritz in Paris, as well as the mythic train, the Orient Express, were equipped with luxurious table settings of Gallia “Art Nouveau” and “Art Deco” flatware. This candle holder is in very good condition with the exception of faint scratches due to normal use.
