The Overview Rolex made some of the most beautiful dress watches in the world during the 1940’s and 1950’s. They have become some of the most collectable and sought after watches in our range. Many were 30mm across the case, known as mid-size, and 33mm known as full size. Just a few are known as oversize which is 34 or 35mm across the case excluding the winding crown. This oversize Precision was made in late 1940s – early 1950s and is one of the most beautiful we’ve seen for many years. The solid 14ct rose gold case with engine turned bezel is in excellent condition with only the most minor signs of wear and a genuine rose gold thimble winding crown (Rolex used these before switching the flatter crown with the Rolex emblem). The original ivory/cream Rolex signed dial has been professionally refinished to the highest possible standards and is classically late art-deco. The very high grade Rolex signed manual wind movement is again in excellent condition and has just been fully serviced at the end of 2023. The watch sits on a new, chocolate brown genuine alligator leather strap with later rose gold plated Rolex buckle. The Case The solid 14ct rose gold case with engine turned bezel is in excellent condition with only the most minor signs of wear and a genuine rose gold plated winding crown (Rolex used these before switching the flatter crown with the Rolex emblem). The case measures 35mm across, excluding the thimble crown and 42mm long including the lugs. Though feint, the Rolex crown is visible on the outside case. The inside case is signed ‘Rolex Geneva Swiss’ and the case numbers ‘479 & 4525’. The Movement The very high grade Rolex signed manual wind movement is again in excellent condition and has fully serviced at the end of 2023. The movement is signed ‘Rolex Precision’, ’17 Rubis’, ‘Swiss Made’ and ‘Patented Superbalance’. The Box and Papers As with the majority of pre-owned watches that are 10 years or older, this particular watch does not come with its original box or paperwork.
