If you’ve been searching for the PERFECT reel-to-reel deck then look no further!!!I This is a new type of listing for us. We’ve been specializing in open-reel tape machines for the past 10+ years (and we don’t in any way mean to brag, but our lead tech is one of only an EXTREMELY small few remaining factory authorized open-reel techs for manufacturers like Otari, Teac/ Tascam, Ampex, Technics, Fostex, Revox/ Studer and a few others). We typically only sell customized machines that are ordered and paid for well in advance, but this time we happen to have a couple that are fully completed, so we figured we’d give someone the chance to grab one of them without having to wait at all. There is usually anywhere between a 4-6 month wait list for our machines (and that is for customers who have paid their invoices in full, months in advance)……What happened with these particular 2 machines is: This Tascam BR-20 was a personal machine of our head tech, and since he has 5 or 6 more of his own decks (and we have somewhere around a hundred more in our warehouse), we decided to completely refurbish it, and sell it in order to raise some $$ that our tech needs to pay some of his son’s medical bills…..The other unit that we have listed is a beautiful, COMPLETELY refurbished, heavily modded, Near Mint Condition Otari MX5050. That machine was ordered by a customer, who later decided that he wanted us to refurbish a different one of our machines for him……So please see our other listing if you are interested in a fantastic Otari deck!!….. Item Description- Up for sale is a stunning, mint condition, COMPLETELY RESTORED, SERVICED, AND PERFECTLY CALIBRATED Tascam BR-20 — 2-track/ 2-channel Professional Reel to Reel Tape Recorder!! This professionally restored unit is in Pristine Condition and Perfect Working Order!!……We will include some blank tapes, take-up reels, and everything else you need to get started rolling tape right away…… ****If you’re an audiophile who is looking for the perfect addition to a high-end hi-fi/ home audio setup, then you’d be hard pressed to find a better option than the BR-20! The build quality is phenomenal, it has a bunch of amazing features, and the sound quality of both the repro and the record functions are second to none!! ****The BR-20 is also a FANTASTIC choice if you are looking for a unit to use in a studio environment! It’s in between playback speed and FFW speed, but it allows you to pack a tape PERFECTLY in around 3 or 4 minutes!- Memory back up system (for recalling the user settings after the power has been shut off and turned back on)- A variety of edit modes- Incredibly solid build quality Service Info – *The following services (in addition to MANY others) have been performed on this unit*- – ****Entire machine has been COMPLETELY recapped! And when we say COMPLETELY, we mean that EVERY SINGLE electrolytic and tantalum capacitor has been replaced. Not just the power supply and amp sections, but ALL of them in the entire machine……We use only audio-grade Nichicon capacitors (for the electrolytics), and Wima film caps when size and value permit….***NOTE: We typically charge $1,000 to complete this upgrade, but since it has already been done to this unit, we are just including it with the price of the unit!!- Complete internal and external disassembly, with condition assessment/ diagnosis of repairs needed- Sourcing and installation of all missing or damaged parts (including all original hardware, whenever possible)- Complete mechanical disassembly, cleaning, and re-lubrication- Assessment of brake pads, and replacement (in this units’ case)- Pinch roller replaced with brand new OEM roller- Capstan belt replaced with brand new OEM belt- Polishing of all metal tape-path surfaces using buffing wheel- Cleaning of all switches, connectors, trim pots, plugs, and receptacles – Cleaning of all potentiometers and faders – Replacement and re-soldering of any failed, suspicious, or “known to be troublesome” connections and/ or components….In this unit we replaced some transistors, a couple IC’s, and obviously ALL of the electrolytic and tantalum capacitors (like we talked about earlier in the listing)- Precise adjustment of reel table height- Measurement and adjustment of pinch roller pressure- Measurement and adjustment of brake torque- Measurement and adjustment of take-up torque- Measurement and adjustment of back tension- Measurement and adjustment of FF and RW torque- Adjustment of L and R tension arms – Test and repair of stop sensor/ auto shutoff assembly- Wow and Flutter test and re-tests throughout calibration procedure – Alignment of all heads- Demagnetization of heads and tape path- Complete calibration/ measurements and adjustments of the following: Line input level, mic circuit check, output level, VU meters, playback and record head azimuth, frequency response (playback), signal-to-noise ratio (playback), monitor level, headphone output level, bias trap, record bias, record level, frequency response (record), signal-to-noise ratio (record), optimum erasure, channel separation, bias leakage, distortion check, and all sync functions.- FRESHLY polished heads!! The heads are in great shape on this unit….Approximately 85% life left on them…..They can be lapped (and relapped) when the time comes that they need it, but that will be a long long time from now….. ***Unit will be set up for tape formula of buyers’ choice, at no additional charge **90-Day Warranty Option, with Purchase of Complete Recapping**- -We typically only offer this warranty IF the customer opts for us to recap the unit and pays the extra $1,000 for that service…..This is due to the fact that any 25+ year old piece of gear can develop unseen issues quite frequently, and IF the recapping isn’t done then the chances of something going wrong increase dramatically!..….But since it has already been done to this machine, we are including this warranty at no extra cost.***Please note that this not associated with eBay in any way….This is just a way that we are able to guarantee that if anything goes wrong with the deck (within the first year of purchase), that we will repair it at no cost to you, AND we will even cover the cost of shipping to and from!! -**Also, ask us about our huge collection of master tapes!
