I am cleaning out my shop and need to get rid of some projects that either didn’t get done or not even started. Some things are personal items I have had for many years. Some are tested and working, some tested and diagnosed. Please read description carefully and ask any questions before you bid or buy. Once you purchase it. it is yours. Please read very carefully and ask any questions you have before purchasing as I do not generally take any returns. This a VERY RARE PAIR. i HAVE HAD THE LAP STEEL FOR 14-20 YEARS AND THE AMP ABOUT THE SAME. The lap steel is a Dickerson in Gray/Black Pearloid also called Processed Pearl Lumarith. First produced in 1938. I have no clue the exact date of manufacture, but I am guessing early 40’s. They also manufactured for others and you sometimes see these as Oahu or Bronson. I have seen a few Valco that were similar. But this is a Dickerson and has the silkscreen label on the top of the neck. I can’t see any major issues and the pickup and volume control work as they should. It comes in a newer case that had a Fender label on it but I can’t tell you for sure as I bought it used because it fit the guitar. The amplifier is also quite rare and you will see the exact amp labeled as an Oahu or Valco. It was the standard first step practice amp and featured a 6 inch field coil 35 ohm Utah speaker driven by a 6F6 and 6SF5 and a 5Y3 rectifier. It has no power switch or volume control. The volume control on the guitar adjusted the level. When I bought the amp it had no tubes. I had a NOS 6SF5 triode and a 5Y3G rectifier and I purchased a very good 6F6 tube. I replaced the electrolytic caps(which were bad) as well as some way off value resistors and got it running. The problem was the speaker rattled. The dust cap on the speaker was missing and dust and dirt got in. I could have replaced the speaker but since it was a field coil speaker I would have had to add a choke and new output transformer since the original is about 6K to 35 ohms. Instead I took some very thin mylar shim material(for shimming voice coils when refoaming speakers) and worked it between the voice coil and armature. After few tries It function without rubbing and the amplifier worked great with the guitar plugged into it. AN IMPORTANT NOTE: i WILL NOT GUARANTEE THE SPEAKER WILL CONTINUE TO WORK! I did not put a dust cover on, if it acts up again you can try the same thing. (I will include some shim and a dust cap if you want to put it on) There is also the option of reconeing the speaker. There are a number of companies that redo field coin speakers for radio collectors, or you could replace the speaker with a newer one with a new output transformer and a small choke for the power supply. I will include the info I have on the amp and a schematic I drew up(It is very similar to an Oahu, but I was unable to find a Dickerson schematic anywhere. NO RETURNS. These will be separately box and probably be shipped that way, unless I find a third box big enough for both. Shipping is $34.95 and I am sure it will cost more than that to ship them.
