Note: These Oster CryogenX Blades are packaged for and sold to Animal & Pet Groomers. They are the same blade design as Oster 76 Style detachable Blades packaged for and sold to Barbers, Hair Stylists, etc. just named differently, have different uses. This means that these blades WILL fit any clipper that accepts A5 detachable style blades and vice-versa (for list of clippers these will fit see below).

Oster Cryogen-X blades are Manufactured from fine-grain, high-carbon steel that is cryogenically treated so edges stay sharper longer. American-made blades have a Rockwell Hardness rating of 62 and stay ultra-cool during operation for optimum durability.

BLADE USES (also see chart in pictures):

Size 50 Blade has a 1/125″ / 0.5 mm Blade Cut

A # 50 blade is a “surgical” blade – used alone will cut hair very, very close. Frequently used by vets for surgical preparation. Good for surgical trims, and for poodle feet and faces. Also used when making patterns in hair.

Size 40 Blade Leaves hair 1/100″, 0.25 mm long
Best used for ears, eyes and pads and is more generally used with Clip on (AKA Universal, Snap On, Guide, Attachment, Guard) combs to achieve uniform and longer hair lengths…I do also sell the clip-on comb sets separately. The Size 40 Blade if used without a comb attachment should only be used by experienced groomers as it cuts very close. An ideal blade for show poodles. This blade is also used by veterinarians for prepping pets for all types for surgery though a size 50 blade is more commonly used.

Size 30 blade has a 1/50″ (.5 mm) blade cut

A # 30 blade is a “surgical” blade – used alone will cut hair very close. Can be used on feet or between pads and is more generally used with Clip on (AKA Universal, Snap On, Guide, Attachment, Guard) combs to achieve uniform and longer hair lengths…I do also sell the clip-on comb sets separately.

Size 15 blade leaves hair 3/64″/1.2mm.

Frequently used on ears, feet, tail base, face, sanitary area and throat. Common blade for Horse Grooming/Clipping. Also can be used for very short cuts on body of any breed. The Size 15 Blade is often used on Poodles for clipper work on the face, feet and tail. The Size 15 Blade is ideal when the Size 10 Blade is not smooth enough and a Size 30 Blade is too close. This blade can also be used for sanitary prep.

Size 8 1/2 blade leaves hair 7/64″/2.8mm long.

This blade is a good choice when a Size 10 blade is too close for sensitive skin. Use this blade for face, necks and short cut on bodies. Leaves a very smooth finish. Use this blade for body work on any breed.

# 10- leaves hair 1.8mm /1/16″ long

*MOST COMMONLY USED Size 10 clipper blades have a 1/16″ blade cut (1.8 mm) thats ideal for underbelly work, terrier ears, and poodle faces a good choice if a fairly close and smooth finish is desired. Ideal for underbelly work, terrier ears, and poodle faces

Often used for stripping coats when the mats are close to the skin. A popular choice for groomers who are doing body work on schnauzers. Suitable for all breeds of dogs and cats, horses, etc.

10 Wide Blade has a 3/32/1.6mm Cut

(Similar to the Andis T-10 Wide Clipper Blade). Size 10 Wide blade leaves hair 3/32″/1.6mm long and is frequently called a shavedown TDQ Take Down Quick or clipdown blade. It is similar to the regular Size 10 Blade but has a wider cutting edge allowing you to cover large areas faster. The Size 10 Wide Blade is frequently used for short clips, on horses and for shaving down matted dogs.

Finish or F” (also referred to as FC or Finish Cut ) Blades

3F, 4F, 5F, 7F, etc. (also referred to as 3 3/4 FC, 4FC, etc)
The teeth on this blade are even, creating a smoother finish. Can be used before and after the bath. Used for a smoother finish or full shavedowns. Work best on coats that are clean, dry and brushed out..

A 3F blade will leave hair, has a /13mm long cut (also referred to as 3 3/4 FC, 3FC)

# 3F -This size is used to achieve a smooth, velvety finish on any breed. Use this blade for a smooth finish that most closely resembles hand scissoring Blade of choice for a short clip on a mixed breed, lhasa, shih tzu, yorkie or maltese. This blade can be used for body work on any breed where a longer length is desired. Is used for finishing the coat after trimming with a #3 skip tooth blade Leaves a nice, long finished length on all breeds of dogs and cats, horses, etc

Size 4F Blade has a 3/8″ / 9.5 mm Blade Cut

Full/Finish cut blade can be used as a finish blade for a size 4 Skip Tooth blade, also for body work on short-legged terriers (westie, etc.) and poodles, and short puppy cuts on Lhasas or any other breed.

This blade can be used for body work or clips on any breed. Also used against the lie of the coat of thick-coated Springers or Cockers for a very short but very smooth look. Suitable for all breeds of dogs and cats, horses, etc

Size 5F Blade has a 1/4″ / 6mm Blade Cut

Most often used to achieve a smooth, short “lamb” like clip or finish on any breed. Is effective for finishing the coat after trimming with a #5 skip tooth blade Leaves a nice finished length on the coats of wire, welsh, and Lakeland terriers Suitable for all breeds of dogs and cats, horses, etc

Size 7F Clipper Blade has a 1/8″ (3.2 mm) blade cut.

# 7F – Finish Cut blade can be used as a finishing blade for a Size 7 Skip-Tooth, as well as for body work on any breed. Frequently used on unmatted cats. Suitable for all breeds of dogs and cats, horses, etc.

Skip Tooth Blades (also called saw tooth blades) – 3, 4, 5 or 7

A NOTE regarding Skip Tooth Blades

Skip Tooth Blades are generally used instead of a finish cut blade when:

Hair or coat is heavily matted or for VERY thick coats. -The coarse or uneven teeth on a Skip Tooth will feed the hair into the cutting blade more effectively, which allows you to clip under mats.
Often used before the bath for rough-cuts, and on dogs that must be shaved completely down. Perfect for blending short areas with longer lengths. Ideal for coarse-coated breeds such as Terriers

A hair cut using a skip tooth blade is generally “finished” off with the same size finish blade to give coat a smooth, finished appearance…for example: if you cut hair with a 4 skip-tooth blade, finish off with a 4F blade

Be extra Careful when using as skip tooth blade as they cut closer to the skin. Skip Tooth blades are not recommended to be used on cats.

Size 3 (also called 3 3/4 Skip Tooth) Skip Tooth Blade has a 1/2″/13mm Blade Cut

This blade can be used for body work on any breed when a little bit longer cut is desired.

The Size 3 Skip Tooth blade cuts through mats that finish cut (FC or F blades) blades cannot penetrate. The coat is more accessible to the cutting blade because of the flat design of this blade. The teeth are more open which allows the coat to be cut easier than the 3F blade with its full teeth. A clip using a 3 Skip Tooth blade is generally finished off with a 3F blade.

Size 4 Skip Tooth Blade has a 3/8″ / 9.5 mm Blade Cut

This blade can be used for body work on any breed when a little bit longer cut is desired. Most often used for Body work on the low-slung Terriers (West Highland White, Scottish, Cairn, etc.), Pet Poodles, short trims on Lhasa Apsos and Shih-Tzus.

The Size 4 Skip Tooth blade cuts through mats that finish cut (FC or F blades) blades cannot penetrate. The coat is more accessible to the cutting blade because of the flat design of this blade. The teeth are more open which allows the coat to be cut easier than the 4F blade with its full teeth. A hair cut using a skip tooth blade is generally “finished” off with the same size finish blade to give coat a smooth, finished appearance-skip tooth blades will leave an unfinished, jagged like appearance…. for example: if you cut hair with a 4 skip-tooth blade, finish off with a 4F blade.

Size 5 Skiptooth blade leaves 1/4″ – 6.5mm

Frequently used on fluffy type coats such as Poodles, Bichons and dogs with similar type coats. Also body work on Sporting Breeds and Terriers, Pet Poodles, body work on short trims on Lhasa Apsos and Shih-Tzus.

The Size 5 Skip Tooth blade, like the size 7, cuts through mats that longer length blades cannot penetrate. The coat is more accessible to the cutting blade because of the flat design of this blade. The teeth are more open which allows the coat to be cut easier than the 5F blade with its full teeth.

Size 7 Skip Tooth Clipper Blade has a 1/8″ (3.2 mm) blade cut.

Size 7 Skiptooth blade leaves 1/8″. This blade can be used for body work on any breed. Suitable for all breeds of dogs and cats, horses, etc. The shortest of the skip tooth blades, the Size 7 is used frequently on very matted dog coats. The Size 7 Skip Tooth blade cuts through mats that other length blades cannot penetrate. The coat is more accessible to the cutting blade because of the flat design of this blade. The teeth are more open which allows the coat to be cut easier than the 7F blade with its full teeth.

Size 5/8 wide (5/8w) blade has a 1/32″/0.8mm blade cut.

Cutting surface is 5/8″ across. For small areas. Commonly referred to as a foot or feet blade this is also good for clipping small areas. Ideal for setting patterns such as the Dutch Clip-on Toy Poodles, great for small Poodle feet.
