Nintendo DS Lite Original Hinge Mechanism & Ring Replacement Set(s) If the hinge on your Nintendo DS Lite has stopped working properly, this pair of parts is likely the perfect replacement. These are original, authentic parts pulled from the many DS Lite consoles I’ve refurbished and have been tested to ensure original functionality. In my experience, these tend to fit and function better than aftermarket reproductions when installed in original Nintendo hardware and are much higher quality. Please note: There are two components that make up the hinge on a DS Lite; the hinge mechanism, and what I’m calling the “ring”. This listing sells one (custom) pair of one of each of these components per order. It is important to know that there are different variations of both parts; and for the rings specifically, two different sizes. This distinction is critical to proper fit. Hinge Variations: There are two types of hinge for the DS Lite, a white one and a black one. Both fit into the various models of original Nintendo housing and function identically well. The only difference I’ve noticed is in the tactile feel of the mechanism, which is really just a matter of preference. (The black ones tend to make a more audible ‘snap’ when they engage into their ‘locked’ positions, while the white ones are a bit quieter and ever so slightly smoother to transition in and out of the locked positions.) Ring Variations: More importantly, there are two types of ring. Each are sometimes produced with a small break in the circle and sometimes without. The ones I have are long with the slit, short without. A ring of the wrong size will prevent the housing from going back together properly. What you’ll need to look at to know what type you need is the depth of the indentation in the housing ‘tunnel’ the ring sits in when inserted into the top inner shell piece. Some only allow the ring to penetrate about halfway through the thickness of the housing ‘arm’ before the tunnel narrows to stop it, those require the shorter rings. Others let the ring slide in almost to the other end of the tunnel before stopping it, those need the longer rings. I’ve included a diagram in the pictures to try to better explain the difference. If you’ve replaced your top inner shell piece with an aftermarket replacement, you will most likely need the short ring. Please note: while I normally take individual pictures for high-value items (such as consoles) so that what’s pictured is specifically what you’ll get, for items like these I’ve taken one generic set of pictures to represent my entire stock.
