I will be listing a considerable collection of 1:8 scale automobile models in the coming days. These models were all professionally completed to an exemplary standard by my Father, a very particular ‘Captain of Industry’ type. Throughout his older life he has bought and completed these models, with forensic accuracy, as a hobby, but he has little interest in collecting the finished products. They are all in absolutely immaculate condition, unless otherwise specified. (If there appears to be any imperfection in the paint on the photos I can assure you it is only static dust). The accuracy and detail included in this model is exemplary, and unlike the other models I have advertised, I’m fortunate enough to have owned one of these original cabriolets several years ago, and was surprised how many little details I was reminded of by this model. The hood mechanism is just as clunky and fiddly as the original, and the hood fabric fits in that particular way the original factory convertibles did (modern convertibles are a lot neater and better fitting, and shaped to resemble the hardtop version more closely). I’m glad De Agostini went with realism. Other details such as the Wolfsburg emblem on the steering wheel, the rubber grooved side sills, the über-accurate engine bay, and even details like the elasticated door pockets which I always remember felt tight enough to cut off your circulation when you were looking for something!) This model is no longer available to buy from DeAgostini, world leaders in high quality subscription models. The model was a limited edition and was built up over 100 subscriptions costing in excess of £1,000. The VW beetle is a cult classic, having had its renaissance in the late 1970’s thanks to a revival in California and an introduction into Pop culture through movies like Annie Hall and Herbie. I am inviting realistic offers from potential owners of this replica of motoring history. Please note however, the item is listed elsewhere and may be removed from auction if sold. The item will be boxed and packaged properly in bubble wrap, with extremities protected where necessary. Items like the radio antenna will be removed and placed in the vehicle. These vehicles are however very delicate and it is always possible that minor damage will occur in transit. Bidders therefore accept that the condition of the item in the photos is the condition when packaged, and no refunds/returns will be accepted for damage in transit.
