This is the HOLY GRAIL of Caroline and Her Friends books, the first ever English publication of Pierre Probsts first Caroline Story in *Extraordinarily* rare Single Edition English version published by Purnell in England in 1953. Featuring “baby Caroline” this story appears in the earliest compendium GOLDEN BOOKS versions (see my collection) and predates these by about ten years – namely the second Edition “Picnic” cover and the “Blue Cloth/Library” version of 61-63, later dropped from the “Blue Lake Camp” versions. The book is in very good condition for its age , being a simple childrens's book but no it is not perfect remember it is 71 years old. There are 22 illustration plates/page faces IN ENGLISH (*not* French) including the inside covers, this was published without a frontispiece. There is bumping, the bottom of the spine is cracked and partly missing but this is an incredibly rare survivor: Most importantly as far as I can see there IS NO WRITING, NO TEARS, and one small fold on one page inner bottom corner. Spine and Corners are bumped and indentations on the clear cover – a. Hold has leant on it to write it seems but by some miracle didn't write in the book itself ! I have been collection Probst / Caroline for 20 years, I forgot I had this to be honest. Only now do I realise how incredibly rare this is. Not many were made, this may be the only surviving copy in this condition. The compendiums in good condition are rare as hens teeth and worth well over $1000, I have sold two over the years so I know this to be true.
