Description Antal Doráti Beethoven: 9 SymphoJosef Krips Edition – Volume 2 nies 5 CD Box SetProduct introduction The Essence of the Vienna Style – The Final Volume of a Collection of Recordings by a Famous Conductor Born in Vienna A two-volume box set of recordings by Josef Krips, one of the few conductors who inherited the traditional Vienna performance style, will be released this time, with the second volume being a collection of recordings made for Decca and Philips between 1955 and 1973. A 21-CD box set. Limited edition. The recordings are divided into four major categories: London, Vienna, Amsterdam, and Tel Aviv. Some recordings are being released for the first time or on CD for the first time. Josef Krips was a conductor who was born and raised in Vienna and was loved by many. While working as an assistant to Felix Weingartner, he joined the Vienna Volksoper as a choral conductor, and in 1933 he became the permanent conductor of the Vienna State Opera. After the war, he elevated the Vienna State Opera to a world-class ensemble, and served as the principal conductor of the London Symphony Orchestra from 1950 to 1954. Mozart was Krips’s benchmark for music. “Everything has to sound like it’s by Mozart, otherwise it’s a bad performance,” he said. The set includes his 1972-73 recordings of Mozart’s symphonies for Philips with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, including rehearsal footage of Symphony No. 33. It also features the celebrated 1955 recording of Don Giovanni in Vienna. A rare live recording of Mahler’s Das Lied von der Erde, featuring Fritz Wunderlich and Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau as soloists. Weber’s Oberon Overture is released for the first time on a previously unreleased recording. Booklet includes rare photos of Krips’ time in Amsterdam and an in-depth essay by Niek Nelissen about Krips’ legacy. Newly remastered.
