This great guitar is an original Guild Model X-150 from way back in 1954 . While this is mostly original , it does have what appears to be an aftermarket tailpiece, and it had a modern aftermarket truss rod cover, which we have removed. We are trying to find a cover that is more correct, but for now it is photographed, and it is being sold without a truss rod cover.The bridge is correct, but it just looks too new for me to call it original. Also, the pickguard is not on the guitar at this time. The pickguard and the pickguard bracket are included and you can see them in one of the photos, but we did not get pickguard screws with it, so we are just including the pickguard the way we got it so you can decide what to do with it. Now, regarding the playability — this guitar plays like an absolute dream. It was test played for several minutes by our Fender Rep. Scott Emmerman, who is quite accomplished as a Jazz guitar player and he fell in love with it. Of course, being the Fender rep, he can’t play other brands of guitars when he plays out , so he couldn’t buy it. This guitar has great low action, a great low neck angle, electronics that are in great shape and work as they should, and overall it is a superb guitar that is ready to gig with right out of the case. Body size at lower bout: 17″ Body depth: 3 3/8″ Scale length: 25 1/2″ Nut width: 1 11/16″ , Weight – 6 pounds, 10.5 ounces. Materials: Arched spruce laminate top; arched figured maple laminate back and sides; solid Honduras mahogany neck; rosewood fingerboard with block inlays; wedge pearl logo peghead inlay; single-bound body; bone nut. Hardware: Mostly original hardware includes nickel Waverly tuners; adjustable single coil pickup with black covers; clear barrel knobs; compensated adjustable rosewood bridge and, black bakelite pickguard. Tailpiece is non original and pickguard does not have mountiung screws and is not attached. After looking again closely, ofdds are pretty good that the bridge is an aftermarket one as well. It is the correct style but it is just too new looking to be original. Notes: When Guild Guitars was founded in 1952, a number of former Epiphone employees joined founder Alfred Dronge in establishing the new company in Manhattan. Along with them, they brought some signature Epi designs, including this fretted marvel of the Eisenhower era. Introduced just two years after the company’s birth, the Guild X-150 was modeled after the early the Epiphone Zephyr Regent and the single pickup Gibson ES-350, with its flamed Venetian cutaway body, single coil pickup, and long scale neck. Distinctively however, the Savoy had a soundboard of arched spruce laminate, in contrast to the laminate maple tops found on most Gibson and Epi electrics. This highly popular Guild jazzer was produced until 1965, then revived in 1998 until the firm ceased archtop production in the early 2000’s. This example is from the debut year for the model, and has been kept in nice original condition, with all original electronics, hardware and dark cordovan sunburst finish. Apart from some typical finish checking, and a few capo dents on the back of the neck, the guitar shows little signs of playwear. It does have a small wood chip at one of the F holes, a screw hole on the back of the neck from where a strap buttn once was, and several small flaws as one might expect from a guitar old enough to be on Social Security. Surprisingly the binding is still in good shape, and I am pretty sure the binding is original. The neck is slim and inviting, and the action is properly low and fast, as befits a hardworking jazz machine. The adjustable single coil pickup is smooth and clear, highlighting the depth and resonance of the full depth body. A rare opportunity to own a genuine New York Guild from the original Fourth Avenue factory, and one of the very first examples of a bop-era classic.
